Evidence and public verification
Understand decision, response and verification evidence and verify a signed manifest safely.
What Vigil evidence represents
Decision evidence records why an action was recommended and authorized. Response evidence records the action issued and the target response. Verification evidence records the independently observed resulting state.
Integrity
Hashes and digital signatures can show whether the supplied manifest changed after signing. Private signing material remains protected; public verification uses only public material.
Public verification
Use the public verifier with an exact manifest, its detached signature and the matching public key. A valid signature proves that the supplied manifest matches the supplied signature under that public key.
What verification does not prove
Signature verification alone does not establish that every event is true or complete, prove legal admissibility, prove attribution, or prove the source system was secure. Establish trust in the public-key fingerprint through an approved channel.
Protect sensitive data
Do not upload or paste raw evidence, credentials, private keys, payment data or customer telemetry. The Vigil verifier performs the signature check locally in the browser.
